HandiLedger - Recover deleted transactions in HandiLedger

Updated this week

If you accidentally deleted a journal instead of editing it, the steps required will depend on the size of the Transaction file for that year.

Determine the size of the Transaction file

  1. Back up your HandiSoft directory.

  2. Log in to HandiLedger and Select your entity.

  3. Go to View, Transactions to confirm the journal is deleted.

  4. Open File Explorer, then go to the HSoft\Data\Who folder.

  5. Find the client’s HandiLedger code and open the folder.

  6. Note the size of the Transaction.xx file (e.g., Transaction.25).

    1. If the file is 1 KB:
You must restore the Transaction file from the latest backup taken before the deletion.

    1. If the file is larger:
Follow the steps below to try recovering the deleted transaction.

Recover deleted transactions

  1. Open File Explorer, then go to the HSoft\Data\ folder.

  2. Rename or delete all files with type = Reb.

  3. Ensure all users close HandiLedger, except you.

  4. Select the entity and under the Year section, click Year, then choose New to create and select the year where the deletion happened.

  5. Go to Tools, Rebuild database files.

  6. Tick only the boxes under Selected entity data, then click Rebuild.

  7. When complete, go to Tools, Verify Accounts, click Start, then close when complete.

  8. Check View, Transactions to see if the data is back.

If the transaction is still missing

Restore the relevant Transaction.xx file from backup or re-enter any data added since that backup.
