HandiTax - Run a tools, rebuild in HandiTax

The following errors indicate that a file(s) need to be rebuilt.

  • Invalid data segment

  • Not unique in record

  • Invalid record ID

  • data incomplete

  • Not node page at position

  • Database corrupted.

The error will point out which particular file is having an issue. This will help you find which file you need to rebuild.

Run a rebuild

  1. Take note of which file the error is pointing to.

  2. Ensure you have a current working backup of your HSoft folder.

  3. Close all users out of all HandiSoft programs.

  4. Open File Explorer then navigate to the HSoft\Data folder.

  5. Sort the files by file Type.

  6. In the Type column, find the files with the type REB.

  7. If there are no REB files, go to step nine.

  8. Rename any REB files by including <today's date> at the end, i.e., Clients.REB_30-09-2025.

  9. Have one user open HandiTax.

  10. Go to Tools, Rebuild.

  11. Tick the required file(s).

  12. Click Rebuild.

  13. If you receive an Abnormal Program Termination error during lodgment, please select and rebuild the Options and SBR data files.

  14. Read and agree to the prompts.

  15. Complete the process and then see if the error is resolved.

Tip: You can see which users are in the programs before you run a rebuild.
