The Username drop-down menu options in the HandiSoft programs start up window are populated from the designated active users.
Example as follows:
Resign and Remove User from Startup Window
In Practice Manager Contact\HandiSoft, go to the View menu, click Users (in HandiTax, go to the Client menu, then click Users).
Highlight the relevant user, click Edit, and complete the Resigned date field.
Click Save, Close.
To see all users, including resigned users, tick Show all users in the Select a user window.
The Username with a resigned date will no longer appear in the drop-down list on the startup window. This will occur once the resigned date has passed. On the date of resignation, the user will still reflect in the system.
Note: The resigned user will no longer appear on the start-up window for the current year HandiSoft programs. For all the prior years of HandiTax, you will need to go into each HandiTax year and resign the user. If you use Time+Billing, you may need to resign staff also.
Resign users from HandiTax prior years
Open the prior year of HandiTax.
Go to the Client menu, Users.
Highlight the user that you wish to resign and click Edit.
Complete the Resigned date field.
Click Save, Close.
Tip: Always select your correct username from the dropdown menu when opening your HandiSoft programs. If you manually type in your username, the startup menu will save this name for future use. This can cause you to appear multiple times in the dropdown menu of the startup window, and you will need to follow the above steps to resign the incorrect usernames.
Username still appears in the startup window
If you have already resigned a user, but the username still appears in the startup window dropdown list, follow the steps below.
Important: Ensure you have a working backup, and all users have exited all HandiSoft programs.
Open File Explorer and navigate to the HSoft\Data folder.
Create a new folder named Old Users.
Open the HSoft\Data folder and locate the Users.YY files. Where YY represents the tax year. Note: Include Users.dat but not UsersInfo.YY.
Move these files from the Data Folder to your newly created Old Users folder.
As the dropdown list will now be blank, all users will then need to re-enter their username upon logging in to Practice Manager Contact/HandiSoft and each prior year of HandiTax.
Tip: Staff names can also be merged where multiple instances exist.
