How to obtain the lodgment status of a tax return lodged to the ATO?

The Lodgment Information report is generated by the ATO after a lodgment. It shows if your lodgment was accepted or rejected. To review this report:

  1. Open the HandiTax year in which the tax return was lodged.

  2. Go to Report, Report Navigator.

  3. Under the SBR Lodgments tab, click Find.

  4. Search by Client Reference, Date or TFN, then click Find.

  5. Click View to show the details of the lodgment.

  6. Update the lodgment status of the return when the report confirms the return was Accepted.


If there is a discrepancy between the Lodgment Information report and the ATO portal:

  1. If not marked as a test lodgment, contact the ATO with the Transaction ID and Message ID from the Lodgment Information report. The ATO can investigate further.

  2. If the status is Rejected, check the report for the rejection reason.

Note: HandiTax generates a lodgment transaction ID if you choose to update the status of the tax return as lodged even if it was rejected.
