Error: 'Client already has a blank ABN division'

Updated over a month ago

HandiLedger does not allow you to have two entities with the same ABN. The following error message is generated when trying to create a new entity or merge data into HandiLedger from a separate installation of HandiLedger, where the ABN already exists for a different entity.

Blank ABN Division Error when Creating a New entity or Merging HandiLedger Data

  • Check that the ABN being merged in is correct.

  • Check that the entities involved are not meant to have trailing Division numbers.

  • Check that the existing entity with that number has the correct ABN.

To resolve the issue:

  1. Go to View, Client Details, Find, ABN.

  2. Type the ABN then click OK.

3. This should then bring you to the client that has the existing ABN already in the HandiSoft Client Database.

When entering an ACN number and pressing 'Save', if the details do not save, and there is no error message indicating the ACN number already exists, then please ensure the entity type matches the correct 'Individual', or 'Non-Individual' status of the entity record. eg. 'Company' type would be 'Non-Individual'. Please refer to this article on changing the entity type.
