HandiTax - Future year tax return in HandiTax

Updated over a month ago

Future-year tax returns are sometimes required when a client ceases business, modifies their taxation reporting period, or permanently leaves Australia.

If your client already exists with a lodged tax return for the income year, you will need to:

  1. Open the current year of HandiTax and remove the TFN from your existing client, Save, then Close.

  2. Go to Client, New (F2).

  3. Complete the details as required, and enter the TFN in the new client, Save, then Close.

  4. Select the new Client, click on Tax Forms, New.

  5. Select the Form Type, and adjust the Year Start and Year End dates.

  6. Click Save then Select.

  7. Within the Tax Return Outline window, highlight the Cover, then click Edit.

  8. In the field Return year field, enter the future year required, then Save Item.

  9. Complete the tax return as required. You may want to include additional information for the ATO in the Other Attachments schedule.

  10. Close and lodge the return when ready.

  11. When successfully lodged, remove the TFN from the new client, and add it back to the original client.

Important: When rolling forward to the next year, review the Year Start and Year End dates on the new client's tax form, as they will increment by one year, and may no longer be applicable.
