Important: An amendment requests a change to an income tax assessment, not an update to taxpayer details.
The ATO accepts amended tax forms, including:
Individual
Partnership
Trust
Company
Superfund and
Self-managed SuperFund
Tip: You can create an amendment:
From a tax return previously lodged by you, and
From a tax return lodged by another agent.
Create an amendment from a return you lodged
Log in to the HandiTax year required.
Locate your client, then click the Tax Forms tab, New.
Select the original form type from the dropdown menu, then click Save.
The amendment will have a sequence number, e.g, 1.
Select the return, then make the necessary changes to the return.
Under the available schedules, select Amendment reasons.
Add an Amendment type indicator:
3 = ATO Error or
4 = Taxpayer Error
Enter a description in the Reasons field, then click Save, then Close the return.
Click Errors to ensure the return is error-free.
Create an amendment from a return lodged by another agent
Log in to the HandiTax year required.
Locate your client, then click the Tax Forms tab, New.
Select the form type from the dropdown menu, then click Save, then Select.
Input the original tax return and check for Errors.
Close the return, then from the tax form details window, mark the return status as Lodged.
Click New.
Select the original form type from the dropdown menu, then click Save.
The amendment will have a sequence number, e.g, 1.
Select the return, then make the necessary changes to the return.
Under the available schedules, select Amendment reasons.
Add an Amendment type indicator:
3 = ATO Error or
4 = Taxpayer Error
Enter a description in the Reasons field, then click Save, then Close the return.
Click Errors to ensure the return is error-free.
Note:
Amendments for all entities are available from HandiTax 2011.
HandiTax 2010 and prior, only Individual forms can be amended. In these years, the form type is called Amendment.
