When checking a tax return for errors in a prior ELS year, the below error may occur. This error occurs due to corrupt or missing Edit Error Definition files.
To resolve the error:
ODB HandiTax
Raise a new case online, reference the title of this article and advise which HandiTax year the error occurs in.
The Support analyst will provide you with a new EditErrorDef.XX file. (*XX denoting the relevant year).
Open File Explorer and navigate to the HSoft\Data folder.
Rename the EditErrorDef.XX file to EditErrorDef.XX,OLD.
Save the new EditErrorDef.XX file provided by the Support analyst, to the HSoft\Data folder.
Open HandiTax and the error should now be resolved.
SQL HandiTax
Open File Explorer and navigate to the HSoft\Data folder.
Double-click the HTEditErrorDefSql.XX file to open in notepad. (*XX denoting the relevant year).
Go to File, Save. This will update the modified date on the file.
Have one user open the relevant HandiTax year and the ht_editerrordefXX table will be populated and updated.
The error should now be resolved and other users can log in to HandiTax if required.
