ATO Occupation Code Changes 2023
In 2023, the ATO made several changes to occupation codes. As a result, using certain outdated codes may trigger SBR errors, including, Occupation code not valid, messages in tax forms.
The following occupation codes have been removed by the ATO:

341111
261399
234999
311299
399999
394112
531112
If you use one of these codes, it will default to 999900 – Occupation not listed. To avoid errors, please select the next most appropriate code based on published agent advice. For the latest occupation codes, refer to the ATO.
