Error V491 appears when you try to update a shareholder’s address and their shareholding in the same transaction. ASIC treats these as two separate legal events, so HandiRegister cannot process them together.
This occurs when you attempt to change a shareholder’s address at the same time as issuing, transferring or cancelling their shares. ASIC also requires that address changes and shareholding changes are treated as separate lodgments. Each update must be submitted on its own to reflect the separate legal events.
Note: Always update the address first, submit the form, then update the shareholding and submit that form.
Update shareholder address
Log in to HandiRegister.
Select the Company.
Click the Shareholders button.
Locate the shareholder from the list then click View.
Click the ellipsis button at the Reference code field, then click Edit.
Make the necessary changes, then click Save.
Click Create ASIC Form, then click Ok to create the Form 484.
Have the Form 484 signed and then lodged with ASIC.
Ensure this form change has been processed successfully by ASIC before updating the shareholding.
Update shareholding
Make the necessary adjustment to the shareholding as required, i.e. Issue of shares, transfer of shares, or cancellation of shares.
Have the Form 484 singed and then lodge with ASIC.
Submitting these changes on separate Form 484's ensures the shareholding update links to the correct shareholder record.
