HandiTax - Retrieve client account information from the ATO in HandiTax

Updated over 2 weeks ago

You can use Access ATO Gateway to retrieve client account details from the ATO within HandiTax. This process requests the client’s account summary from the ATO and, where there is an outstanding balance for an account, a request is also made to identify any due amounts.

  1. Log in to HandiTax.

  2. Select a client.

  3. Click the Accounts tab and then click Update Records.

  4. Select your Tax Agent, enter your Credential Password and then click Submit.

Submit button indicated for credential authentication
  5. The HandiTax Payload Transmission Progress window repeats the process for each ATO transmission that is requested, once all updates are complete a box will appear displaying a message that the account details have been updated. Click OK. This displays the retrieved accounts in the Accounts tab.

  6. Select the required account record to view.

  7. Click Report View.

  8. The report view will show additional information retrieved from the ATO related to the account, including the following:

    • Treatment - The Treatment column displays how an account or assessment is to be treated over a specified period. An accounting treatment is applied to an account or an assessment for a finite period of time, or it can be applied from a particular date onwards. Some examples of accounting treatments include concessional general interest charge, natural disasters, and release from debt.

    • ANZSIC code/description - The ANZSIC code/description column displays the code and description that identify the classification of the industry in which the organisation operated.

    • ABR Integrated - ABR Integrated column indicates whether the client account is integrated with the Australian Business Register (ABR).

    • Excise ID number - The Excise ID number column displays a unique numeric identifier issued by the Australian Taxation Office to clients without an Australian Business Number (ABN) who are licensed for various excise activities.
