Creating a BAS or IAS Form from the Activity Statement Lodgment Report

The steps below provide instructions on how to:

  • tag new clients who do not have a previous BAS return lodged using Report Builder and a filter based on Date Added

  • tag the clients that you have previously lodged BAS/IAS forms on behalf using Report Builder Return Selections.


Once the clients are tagged you can submit an Activity Statement Lodgment Report Request for clients Filtered by Tagged clients.

How to tag new clients where no previous BAS return exists

New clients who have been added to the database and do not have a previous BAS return will not be included in the instructions on How to tag clients with a BAS return from a previous BAS date.

The instruction below will allow you to tag/untag new clients.

  1. Go to Reports, Report Builder.

  2. Click the Ellipsis button on the Filter/Expression field.

  3. Click New and provide the name of the Filter eg DateAdded

  4. Copy the filter below into the Expression area using the relevant dates eg Clients Added after 01/03/2021

  • (dateadded@Clients > "01/03/2021")

  1. If you use the BAS field in the Client Detail window you can copy the filter below. We suggest that you update the BAS field in Clients Details.

  • (dateadded@Clients > "01/03/2021") and (BasType@Clients = 5)

  1. Click Save and Close.

  2. Ensure the Prompt to Tag clients is ticked.

  3. Click the Ellipsis button, highlight and select the filter called DateAdded.

  4. Click Save and add a name to the list if you wish to use the Load button to recall the report in the future.

  5. Click Run Report.

  6. Close the report and click Yes to the message Would you like to tag these clients?

  7. Close the Report Builder window.

  8. Tagged clients can be viewed by clicking F6 or Client, Tag/Untag batches of clients.

Note: Clients who do not require BAS returns need to be untagged from this window.

To request the Activity Statement Lodgment Report:

  1. Go to ATO Reports, Activity Statement Lodgement Report.

  2. Click on Filter Clients.

  3. Click the Ellipsis button in the Filter Clients field.

  4. Highlight and Select the #Tagged filter

  5. Enter your Credential Password and Request.


How to tag clients with a BAS return from a previous BAS period

Note: Repeat these steps if you wish to request an Activity Statement Lodgment report for IAS, Annual BAS and annual IAS.

  1. Go to Reports, Report Builder.

  2. Click on the Return Selection tab.

  3. Select Form Type, BAS.

  4. Click on the Sequence Ellipsis button

  5. Select a BAS quarter that was previously lodged - the example uses the quarter ending September 2021.

  6. Click Ok

  7. Repeat the above step by clicking on the ellipsis button in the to field and select the same BAS quarter as above.

  8. Click the arrow to move the BAS selection to the white box, as per the screen print.

  9. Ensure the Prompt to Tag clients is ticked.

10. Click Save and add a name to the list if you wish to use the Load button to recall the report in the future.

Note: The ATO has a limitation of 1000 clients for tagged report requests to the ATO.

11. Go to the Client Selection tab and select the Client Reference field to limit the report to 1000.

12. Click Run Report.

13. The report will display clients who have a BAS return for the dates selected.

14. Close the report and click Yes to the message Would you like to tag these clients?

15. Close the Report Builder window.

To request the Activity Statement Lodgment Report:

  1. Go to ATO Reports, Activity Statement Lodgement Report Request.

  2. Click on Filter Clients.

  3. Click the Ellipsis button in the Filter Clients field

  4. Highlight and Select the #Tagged filter

  5. Enter your credential password and click Request.
