How to update an expired password?

Updated over a month ago

This article will assist you in updating your EDGE password if it is out of sync with the password held in the ASIC system.

To resolve these errors, you'll need to contact ASIC on 1300 300 630 to request your EDGE password to be reset.

The ASIC EDGE support consultant will request your EDGE User ID to confirm the practice you are calling from. Your EDGE password is then reset in ASIC's system to be the same as your EDGE User ID. This can take an hour to take effect on ASIC's system.

When you request a password reset, ASIC reset your EDGE password in their system to be the same as your EDGE User ID. This means that your EDGE User ID also becomes your temporary EDGE password.

You'll then need to make this same change in the Edge communication Options. This means the DIS Password (your EDGE Password) needs to be the same as the DIS User ID (your EDGE User ID).

Updating an Expired Password

  1. Contact ASIC on 1300 300 630 to request your EDGE password to be reset.

  2. In HandiRegister, go to Options, EDGE Setup.

  3. On the EDGE communications Options window, input the temporary password into the New password box (same as the User ID).

  4. Select Fix mistake if password has expired then click Apply, OK. The new password will then move to the current password field.

Example: The DIS Password is not case sensitive and is always displayed in upper case. The format is always an A followed by five numbers. E.g, A12345

5. The EDGE password is only valid for a limited number of logins. It is therefore essential that we specify a password to be used before the EDGE password has expired.

6. Go to Options, EDGE Setup.

7. On the EDGE communications Options window, type in a password that you would not have used before in the New Password field. The password must be at least six characters and one digit long (e.g. FLOWER1).

Caution: When entering your new password it is important that you do not use a similar password to the previous one entered e.g FLOWER1, FLOWER2. It needs to be a new password, if you used the word FLOWER in your previous password you cant use it again. Your password must end in a numeric character.

8. Select Update expired, click Apply, OK.

Information from ASIC specifications in regards to passwords

  1. A DIS (Document Interchange System/EDGE) password must be at least six characters long but not more than 16 characters and must contain at least one alpha, and at least one numeric character. The password is confined to any printable ASCII characters. Lower case characters are converted to upper case, so the password is not case sensitive.

  2. Once used, a DIS password cannot be used ever again.

  3. When re-connecting to ASIC, the temporary password is used to identify your agency with ASIC. If successful, the password is then changed to a 28-day password and is automatically updated in HandiRegister. EDGE users (or their software) must change passwords every month. (HandiRegister does this automatically for you if your password ends in a numeric character).
