HandiSoft - Change the client type in HandiSoft programs

When a client is setup for the first time, the client type defaults to 'I' (individual). If the client should be a non-individual, be sure to enter 'N' in the field.


If a client has been incorrectly set up in the HandiSoft Client database as an Individual when they should be a Non-Individual or vice versa, HandiLedger can be used as a mechanism to correct it.

Note: Prior to making any changes ensure that you have a suitable backup and that no other users have selected the client in any other HandiSoft programs.

The examples below illustrate changing an Individual to a Non-Individual, the opposite applies when changing a Non-Individual to an Individual.

For existing HandiLedger entities

  1. Close all HandiSoft programs

  2. Open HandiLedger.

  3. Highlight the Entity.

  4. In the Entity details window, delete the details in the Client Details fields.

  5. Under the Client details section, select Non-Individual.

  6. Complete the Business name and Entity name details.

  7. Click Save and Close.

Clients that do not have an entity record in HandiLedger, need to have one created.

  1. Open HandiLedger.

  2. From the Entity menu, click Add a new entity

  3. Under the Client detail section click Choose.

  4. In the Choose a client window, highlight the applicable client and click Select.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Follow the steps 3 to 7 as outlined above in the section above entitled "For existing HandiLedger entities".

Notes:

  • This should only be implemented for clients that have been incorrectly set up and not clients that have prior year tax returns with a differing type.

  • The option is only available for HandiLedger users.

  • The change will only apply to current year programs.
