HandiSoft - Backup Access HandiSoft programs

What folders need to be backed up, and what is a good backup routine?

Updated over a month ago

Your company's value often depends on its data, and a catastrophic loss of data can sometimes cripple companies, often beyond the point of recovery. It’s concerning the number of clients we come across who do not have a structured backup solution or Disaster Recovery Plan. We cannot emphasise the importance of regular backups and ensuring you can restore the data if needed.

We advise protecting your data by using a professional backup solution. Please consult with your IT for a security assessment.

Note: If you are a single user with your HandiSoft installed on a drive on your computer (not a server), you can back up the entire \HSoft folder to a removable hard drive. If you are using the SQL system, review the article How do I create a backup of my SQL database?

We recommend the 3-2-1 strategy. This means having at least 3 backups, two on-site (but on different media) and at least one backup off-site. Most companies back up several times a day using incremental and differential methods.

We recommend you take a full backup of the \HSoft folder:

  • Before any upgrade.

  • Daily.

  • Weekly.

  • Monthly.

  • Three monthly.

  • Six-monthly.

Refer to Migrating HandiSoft programs to a new server which will give the necessary files/folders to back up.
