HandiTax - How do I create a dividend refund tax return for an Individual?

Updated over a month ago

Refund of Excess Imputation Credits

The HandiTax refund of excess imputation credits form provides an easy method of preparing an individual form to claim a refund of excess imputation credits. This form gives you access to only Question 11, "Dividends". All the other questions contain default information that has been inserted to remove any ATO errors that would otherwise have occurred. If this default information is not correct for the specific client, then you cannot create the individual tax return in this manner.

Note: You should only prepare an individual's tax return in this manner if their taxable income is below the tax-free threshold, and the only item that requires completion on the Individual tax return is the Dividends question.

Select the Dividend Refund check box to prepare an Individual tax return to claim a refund for excess imputation credits. The resulting tax form will be a modified individual tax return, which only allows information to be entered into the dividends question in the tax form.

  1. Highlight and select the client.

  2. Highlight the client's Individual tax form (I Form) click Edit.

  3. If the form doesn't exist, click Taxforms, New, Form Type, select I Form.

  4. Select the Dividend Refund check box and then click Save.

  5. Read the "Information" window and then click OK.

  6. Select and complete the tax form in the usual manner. Note: The only question that you can complete is Question 11, "Dividends".
