HandiTax provides you with the ability to perform a number of functions, such as printing a document or running a report, for clients that meet certain criteria. This selection criteria are set out in the Filter Expression. HandiTax has a number of standard filters available and the facility to create your own.
A basic guide to creating client expressions to filter data for reports in HandiTax.
To write a new Clients Expression using the Client List Abbreviated report to display the information as an example.
Note: This is only a basic guide to creating a client expression and for a more in-depth explanation you need to consult the user guide and online help.
The HandiSoft master expressions are indicated with a Y in the HandiSoft column. A new expression can be created by either choosing a HandiSoft master that closely resembles the expression you wish to create and making a copy that can be edited to suit your purpose or else you can create a new one from scratch following the steps below:
From the Reports menu select Client and select Client List Abbreviated, this will bring up your Client Expression window.
Click New.
In the Client Expressions window, enter a new unique name in the Name field.
Click Add Expression.
In the Expression Editor you will need to select the appropriate Table, Field, Sign and Value:
The Table field indicates the location of the required information. If your client expression requires data from the Clients Detail screen, you will need to select Client in the Table field of the Expression Editor.
In the Field, select the field within the selected Table that you wish to use. For example, PartnerRef for an expression requiring a particular partner's clients being filtered.
Select the Sign in the equation field.
In the Value field, you need to type in or select from the options available in the required value.
6. Click Add.
7. Click Done and Save and Close.
8. In the Next screen Save your expression and click Close.
9. Click Select it to run it.
The expression can use more than one selection criteria, this is achieved by linking the criteria using the and/or option.
Table = Clients
Example: If you require a report listing all entities which have Simon as a partner. In the Expression Editor, we need to use Clients in the Table field, PartnerRef in the Field field, = as the Sign and in the Value you need to type Simon.
Example: If you require a report listing all entities which have a Tax Estimate of more than $50,000. In the Expression Editor, we need to use TaxFormForClients in the Table field, TaxIncome in the Field field, > as the Sign and in the Value you need to type 50,000.
