If, when opening a document, it doesn't open in the correct program, e.g. Excel or Word, follow the steps below:
Save a copy of the document to the desktop.
Right-click on the document, Open with, Choose another App, select the program you wish to open the document in, then select Always.
Once you have updated this option, go and reset the document to see if it opens in the correct program.
